Basic and Ultra are different models. The comparison below does not confirm both are stocked. Contact us for the exact model and hardware version before ordering. Ultra+ is different from Ultra ZS405.
tinySA Spectrum Analyser
Looking for a pocket-sized spectrum analyser with measurement ranges extending into the gigahertz range on supported models? Meet the tinySA – a compact spectrum analyser and signal generator for radio amateurs, engineers and electronics enthusiasts.
The tinySA is available in two versions: tinySA Basic and tinySA Ultra. The following sections describe their features so you can choose the appropriate model.
tinySA Basic
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Screen size | 2.8 inches |
| Spectrum analyser input | Two inputs: - Higher-quality MF/HF/VHF input: 0.1MHz–350MHz - UHF input: 240MHz–960MHz (lower performance than the low-frequency input) |
| Signal generator output | When not used as a spectrum analyser: - Sine wave: 0.1MHz–350MHz - Square wave: 240MHz–960MHz |
| Bandwidth filters | Switchable resolution bandwidth filters from 2.6kHz to 640kHz |
| Display | Colour display with up to 290 scan points covering the selected frequency range |
| PC connection | USB connection for use as a PC-controlled spectrum analyser or signal generator |
| Battery | Rechargeable battery, minimum 2 hours of use |
| Maximum input level | +10dBm (do not overload the tinySA) |
| Note | The generator cannot be used as a tracking generator because the spectrum analyser and generator cannot operate simultaneously |
tinySA Ultra
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Unit dimensions | Depends on actual Ultra revision; confirm enclosure dimensions before integration. |
| Display | 4-inch colour touchscreen,480 × 320 pixels, up to 450 measurement points. |
| Controls | Jog-switch control, USB serial port, optional TTL USART on the internal PCB |
| Power supply | Linear regulator to avoid switching noise; USB-C data and charging (≥500mA), rechargeable battery (minimum 2 hours of operation) |
| Spectrum analyser input (LF) | Ultra ZS405:100 kHz–800 MHz in normal mode.50 Ω with suitable attenuation;0–31 dB internal attenuator with LNA off. Maximum+6 dBm without internal attenuation; recommended at most 0 dBm with automatic attenuation. RBW 200 Hz–850 kHz; measurement performance depends on setup and calibration. |
| Spectrum analyser input (HF) | Ultra uses the same RF input in normal and Ultra modes, not the Basic separate high-frequency input. Ultra mode reaches up to 6 GHz with reduced accuracy above 5.3 GHz. Ultra+ has different limits; use the exact model documentation. |
| Output (LF) | Ultra ZS405: sine 100 kHz–800 MHz; output−115 to−19 dBm in 1 dB steps. Level accuracy depends on frequency and selected power. AM/FM and sweep are supported. |
| Output (HF) | Ultra ZS405 above 800 MHz: square-wave mode up to 4.4 GHz or an alternative mode up to 5.4 GHz with different spurious-signal and level limits. This is not a separate Basic HF output. |
| Reference Generator | Ultra: calibration output with fundamental around−35.6 dBm; selectable 1, 2, 4, 10, 15 or 30 MHz. |
| Notes | Follow the exact model input limits; add a correctly rated external attenuator and DC block where needed. Never connect a transmitter directly. The analyser and internal generator do not form a simultaneous tracking generator. |
What is included?
- 1x tinySA Basic or tinySA Ultra (depending on your selection)
- 1x USB cable for charging and PC connection
- 1x user manual
- Accessories such as antennas or cables may be included, depending on the package
Explore the radio spectrum with tinySA. Whether you choose Basic or Ultra, it provides a compact measurement tool for your workbench or field kit. Observe the input limits and use appropriate attenuation to avoid damaging the instrument.
