Check the module’s supply and output voltage against the controller’s input limits before connecting it. A 5V supply does not make the signal safe for a 3.3V GPIO or ADC; use suitable level/voltage conversion. Analogue signals require an ADC, which a standard Raspberry Pi computer does not include.
Explore optical pulse signals with an IR LED and light detector.
KY-039 is an educational module for optical pulse experiments. Blood movement in a finger affects infrared light, and changes can be observed in the sensor’s analogue signal. The signal requires processing and is affected by finger placement, movement and ambient light. The module is not validated for medical measurements.
KY-039 provides an analogue signal requiring a suitable ADC and signal processing. Arduino boards with analogue inputs can read it; a Raspberry Pi computer needs an external ADC. Finger placement, motion and ambient light affect readings. This is an educational component, not a validated medical device or a substitute for health monitoring equipment.
