Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4 – 868 MHz with OLED

A small development board for large wireless projects! Heltec WiFi LoRa 32 V4 combines ESP32-S3, SX1262 LoRa radio, WiFi and Bluetooth LE with a 0.96" OLED display.

This version is for 868 MHz projects and gives you a compact platform for Meshtastic, LoRaWAN and your own IoT solutions. The display can show status and information from your project, while USB-C makes it easy to program the board.

The board has connections for a lithium battery, solar panel and a separate GNSS module. One board with LoRa antenna is included. GNSS module, battery and solar panel are sold separately.

Use firmware for Heltec V4, which is compatible with the print revision, and select the EU_868 region in Meshtastic. Connect the antenna before transmission, and adjust the transmit power to your application and the applicable frequency regulations.

ESP32-S3R2 has two 32-bit cores with up to 240 MHz, 512 KB SRAM, 2 MB PSRAM and 16 MB flash. The OLED screen uses SSD1315 and displays 128 × 64 pixels. You can connect sensors via UART, I²C or SPI, but some GPIO signals are already used by the radio, display and memory.

Power consumption changes significantly with the operating mode: sleep on battery is around 20 µA in the manufacturer's test, while LoRa transmission can require several hundred milliamperes. The sleep figure therefore does not describe the consumption of a constantly listening Meshtastic node. The battery and power supply must be able to handle the transmit pulses.

Print revision and processor variant affect the firmware. This product description applies to the R2 version with 2 MB PSRAM. The R8 version and different V4 revisions may have different pin functions. The OLED is removable via the board's connector; GNSS is added with a separate L76K module.
