KY-040 Rotary Encoder Module
Rotary encoders appear in controls from car-radio volume knobs to vacuum-cleaner settings. Measure rotation through an unlimited number of turns!
Rotary encoders, also called quadrature encoders, are practical mechanical rotation sensors. Unlike potentiometers, they can be turned continuously.
KY-040 is an incremental mechanical rotary encoder with an integrated push button. Its two digital pulse channels let a microcontroller determine rotation direction and count steps, making it useful for electronic controls.
Our encoders are incremental: they do not store the number of steps turned. A microcontroller can keep track of this.
Pressing the shaft activates a centre push button, useful as an Enter action in menus.
