Soil moisture sensor with comparator / soil hygrometer module

Check the module’s supply and output voltage against the controller’s input limits before connecting it. A 5V supply does not make the signal safe for a 3.3V GPIO or ADC; use suitable level/voltage conversion. Analogue signals require an ADC, which a standard Raspberry Pi computer does not include.

A simple soil moisture sensor with a built-in comparator

This sensor measures resistance between two conductors. Ideal for ESP32. Insert the probes into soil: their resistance depends on the moisture content. Wetter soil has lower resistance, allowing current to flow more easily between the probes.

The module has a comparator with an adjustable threshold. Turn the blue potentiometer to set when the digital output switches; check the polarity of your particular module.
