Simple, reliable magnetic switching
This sensor uses a magnetic contact called a reed switch. Two contacts meet when a magnetic field comes close.
A 10kΩ pull-down resistor holds the output at ground while the normally open reed switch is inactive. Bringing a magnet close closes the connection to the supply voltage.
Use it for contactless switching, such as detecting a closed door or controlling electronics through a waterproof barrier.
This passive sensor draws no current when no magnetic field is present.
For a version with a comparator, see thes largersibling here.
