KY-008 is a compact red laser module. The original rating is 5mW, but the output and laser classification of stocked units must be confirmed. It can be used in controlled optical experiments; it is not a complete distance sensor.
The module is intended for 5V operation. Do not exceed the rated supply or modify the current-limiting resistor without verified component data. A microcontroller may control it through a suitable driver; confirm the current requirement before connecting any GPIO.
Never look into the beam or aim it at people or animals. Reflections can also cause eye injury.
