Adjustable IR reflectance sensor – confirm module variant

Check the module’s supply and output voltage against the controller’s input limits before connecting it. A 5V supply does not make the signal safe for a 3.3V GPIO or ADC; use suitable level/voltage conversion. Analogue signals require an ADC, which a standard Raspberry Pi computer does not include.

This infrared sensor can be used for experiments with reflective surfaces. Confirm the particular module variant before connecting it. The sensor can  detect whether a surface reflects infrared light. Adjust the threshold using the potentiometer to suit the surface and ambient lighting. This compact sensor supports applications such as robotics, automation and interactive installations.

This simple sensor consists of two parts:

First, an infrared emitter and detector placed beside one another. Nearby objects reflect infrared light back to the detector.

Second, signal-conditioning circuitry adjusted with the blue potentiometer.

Overall, this is a simple reflective infrared sensor with adjustable sensitivity. Check the stocked module's output type before connecting it.
